Intro To Flax Spinning

Spinning flax into bowstrings is one of the most popular ways to make money for members. In addition to generating profits as high or better then flax picking itself, making bowstrings also generates considerable Crafting experience at the same time. Spinning flax into bowstrings requires level 10 Crafting.

Where to Get Flax

Generally, the most efficient way to obtain flax for spinning is to purchase it from the Grand Exchange (although many players like picking their own flax to increase profits). Always buy flax for medium or lowest price, although you may have to wait longer for your order to be filled. Buy flax in large quantities (1,000 or more) to allow you to spin as much as possible before returning to the Exchange.

Where to Spin Flax

  • Lumbridge Castle - One of the most popular places to spin flax, run between the third-floor bank and the spinning wheel in a room on the floor beneath the bank.
  • Seer's Village - There is a spinning wheen located on the second floor of a small house located right near the bank in Seer's Village. This is also popular because of it's proximity to the Seer's Village flax field, allowing you to pick and spin the flax in one trip. Get here with a Camelot teleport.
  • Neitiznot - If you've completed the Fremennik Isles quest, you can take advantage of a spinning wheel located only a few squares from the town's bank. This is the best place to spin if you fulfill the requirements. Get here by sailing from the northernmost dock in Relleka.

Optimizing your Flax Spinning

As with flax gathering, the main factor limiting your profit while flax spinning is speed. In addition to wearing weight-reducing clothes (such as spotted capes and Boots of Lightness), you can also use the run-restore function of an Explorer's Ring to prevent yourself from losing stamina.

If you have completed the Seer's Village Achievement Diary, a Seers' Headband 3 will give you a significant advantage by decreasing the time it takes to spin flax on the Seer's Village wheel to just one second each (this headband will also allow you to claim 120 noted flax from Geoffrey every day for free).

Profit and Tips

Bowstrings are generally worth from 180gp to 200gp apiece on the Grand Exchange, well over double the price of a piece of raw flax. They are always in demend due to their use in training Fletching, and can almost always sell instantly in the Exchange.

  • If you buy your flax from the Exchange, you will more then double your money after spinning and selling all.
  • You can make up to 200K per hour depending on your speed and efficiency
  • Use the "Make All" function to save clicks
  • Watch a movie or listen to music while your character spins each inventory
