I. Info on the Brine Rat
The Brine Rat is a level 70 creature found in a remote cave in the Fremmenik province. It has 50 health points
and is non-aggressive and non-poisonous, yet yields loot valuable enough to draw adventurers from far and wide.
The grand prize offered by the Brine Rat is the coveted Brine Sabre, but the Brine Rat also yields an abundance of
valuable noted raw fish, runes, and other loot.
II. Required/Suggested Skill Levels
|
While Brine Rats are level 70, they have relatively low defence and are fairly easy to kill one-on-one. They are
slayer targets, and require at least 47 slayer to engage as well as the Fremmenik Trails Quest (to access the dungeon
they inhabit).
Besides these requirements, the following levels are recommended for the most profitable trips:
|
 |
- Melee > At least 70+ combat stats to effectively kill the rat
- Range > 60+ Range
- Mage > 60+ Mage
III. What to Bring
Bring the best armor and weapons you can afford when going Brine Rat hunting. While they aren't
particularly dangerous (especially to higher levels), good armor can help you conserve food
and stay in the field longer, leading to increased loot and better profits.

As for the inventory, you have several options. Required items are a spade
(for accessing the cave) and a Dramen staff (if you use a fairy ring to get there).
Option A- Very basic option; bring 15 sharks. Bank/teleport out when you run out of food.
Option B- As you kill the brine rats, pick up all the raw rat meat, swordfish, and sharks (still pick up noted ones too). When you have a full inventory, light a fire and cook them. As you use up the food, pick more food up. There is a very good chance you will get a random event when you light a fire in the cave.
Option C- Very similar to option B but, instead of lighting a fire and cooking it, you walk outside of the cave (exit is next to entrance) and walk over to Olaf. Next to him is a fire that never goes out. Cook your food there and walk back up next to the tree and dig back into the cave.
IV. Getting To Sven the Helmsman's Cave
 |
Green- Walk/Run up from Camelot/Seers Village to the tree.
Blue- Walk/Run from Rellekka to the tree.
Red- Fairy ring (DKS) and walk a few short steps to the tree.
Dig two paces below the tree and you will fall into a hole to the cave. From there, follow the
red dotted path (see cave map below) to find the Brine Rat's pit.

Brine rats have very low defense and is suggested to overpower them especially with a god sword
or abyssal whip. The main drops we're going for are the noted raw sharks, noted raw lobsters, and of
course, the brine saber. The highest they can hit is a five if you have good armour and a pretty high
defense level. They drop gold charms at a very high rate.

V. Loot
 |
100%- Bones, Raw Rat Meat
What To Keep- Brine Sabre, Runes-Air, Water, Earth, Death Blood (will pile up after time), noted raw rat meat (18 at a time), noted raw pike (18 at a time), noted raw lobster (10 at a time), raw sharks (1-2 at a time), raw swordfish (8-10 at a time), and noted raw sharks (3-8 at a time), water talisman.

Overall, Brine Rat hunting is a fun and profitable trip that can turn rewards of well over 150k per trip.
Brine sabres themselves are worth over 60K on the market, and the wealth of raw fish dropped by the rats not
only provides profit but allows you to camp out in the rat pit for even longer. A well-planned expedition can be
extremely lucrative. Good luck!
